To download an MS Word file, left click on the file then select "Save File" Alternatively, you can select Open File, edit it, then from within Word, click on File then Save As - you then give it a name and select a file location.
PDF files should open as a PDF file in your browser. You may then select the Download option in your PDF reader programme.
